Gotong Royong on Stop Dengue Campaign at |
18th April 2010
The gotong royong which took place on 18th April 2010 marked EntoGeneX’s 2nd participation in the Ministry of Health’s Stop Dengue Campaign in the Gombak area.
Until today, Gombak remains as an area with one of the highest dengue incidences in Malaysia. As a result, teams from the local District Health Office, Selayang Local Council, Alam Flora, residences, EntoGeneX and Holista Biotech joined forces on that day to conduct a gotong royong event on a bigger scale, targeting the whole of Phase 9 of Taman Sri Gombak.
While other teams were focused on the cleanliness of the area, the objective of EntoGeneX-Holista’s participation this round was to apply its Moustique BioLarvicide Rice Husk at potential mosquito breeding grounds in public areas. The EntoGeneX-Holista team applied more than 225 packs (equivalent to 11.25 Kg) of the Rice Husk in drains, playgrounds, back lanes as well as rubbish bins and flower pots outside of house compounds which are all potential mosquito breeding grounds.
During their rounds, the team from EntoGeneX-Holista discovered several hot spots which are conducive for mosquito breeding including:
• Discarded pots and bottles at back lanes
• Rubbish bins which contained rain water
• Clogged drains
The EntoGeneX-Holista team also met with several residents in the area to help promote awareness on dengue as well as distribute the biolarvicide products.
Following more than 5 hours of long walks and hard work, the EntoGeneX-Holista team successfully treated all the mosquito breeding grounds discovered with the Moustique BioLarvicide Rice Husk.
It will be a tough battle to eliminate dengue from the area. But with consistent and proper application of the Moustique BioLarvicide Rice Husk and Wettable Powder, as well as better cleanliness habit in the area, victory will be achieved in the end.
